Optimizing the usability of a website (content management)
As the web editor at the Institute for Humane Studies (IHS), I worked closely with all teams at the organization, as well as designers, developers, and account managers, to keep both of the organization’s websites updated and optimized throughout the year. While my primary responsibility was to make sure the content on the site was up-to-date and error-free, I also accomplished the following:
- Improved site usability: Initially many of the individual webpages were wordy and had no clear call to action. Working with the teams and our designer, I cut down on the words on each page, formatted each page to be more visually attractive and usable, and made sure each page had a clear call to action.
- Optimized site content for SEO: Initially, many of the webpages were not optimized for SEO. I made sure all pages were optimized for a search term (a long-tail keyword for blog posts and a head term for our main pages), and then I edited the copy accordingly. I also worked with developers to add a blog to both sites so that we could employ a long-tail keyword strategy.
See web copy below. Please note that not all buttons and links work; the samples below simply highlight the copy and layout of the pages.
