The Challenge: Generation Opportunity needed to communicate its stance on variety of public policy and human-interest issues and build its brand among millennials who leaned center-right politically.
The Opportunity: We decided to meet the challenge by producing fun and credible articles that highlighted how our issues were being impacted by the news.
My Role: I managed the creation of all written content, averaging three to four articles per day. For a time, I was also managing the organization’s national social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter. Over time, I moved away from the writing and social media aspect of the job to focus on organizing pitch meetings, guiding content through approval processes, and recruiting and managing internal and external writers.
Of all the projects I’ve worked on, this has been my favorite, as I feel I had a lot of leeway to try new ideas, research important issues while improving my writing, and leverage an organization’s brand and messaging in a newsroom-type situation.
The Result: Over seven months, I wrote 88 long-form (500-1,000 words) articles and almost 240 short-form (200-500) articles, helping grow the organization’s pageviews by 94%. I also increased the organization’s Twitter audience by 15%, doubling link clicks on Twitter, and increasing Facebook post reach by 11%.
